When life gets real...

I was going to do my normal posts and link-ups today, but since I have been on the theme all week of being real with you, my fellow bloggers, I figured I would continue on and be super transparent today.

Plus, normal just did not seem appropriate today.

I don't know about you, but so often I live out my days thinking the smallest things
are the end of the world, when in reality they are just tiny speed bumps
then life gets real...

Last night, a friend I have known for what seems like forever tried to commit suicide.
Now, unfortunately this is not something I am unfamiliar with at all.
My dad's family suffers from Huntington's Corea and a huge side effect is suicide.
Actually, that is how I lost my own daddy when I was just a young girl.
I also lost a dear teenager whom I mentored in the same way.

Thankfully, my friend and I got to the emergency room quickly and they were stitched up
after hours upon hours of waiting.

However, as I sit here spilling my heart out to you with tired puffy eyes
(and wishing I was allowed to be with my friend to support them in the mental health unit)
I am remembering once again how precious each and every life truly is.

Why do we make small issues big?
Why do we choose to see the worst in people?
Why do we choose not to love?
Why do we not ask for help?
Why do we always think we can handle it all?
Why do we take people and life for granted?
Why do we hide instead of being real and honest?

I am guilty of so many of those things, and also overlooking problems I see others facing.
I want to remember to focus on the important things in life not the trivial.
I want to have open eyes to what is going on in the lives of family and friends.
Most of all I want to love, love the way God made me to love.

I know this post has been heavy, and I do apologize.
I ask and beg for prayers for my friend right now...they are greatly needed.
Pray for healing, strength, forgiveness, and openness.

I also want to say thank you so much for allowing me to share my life with you and for following my posts.
I do appreciate each and every one of you!

Your friend,
Brittney

  3. I just found you through your post at LaLa lists and I feel like I already know you. Don't ever apologize for opening up and being real, transparent and honest on your blog. It's your space to express how you feel and I appreciate your honesty.

I lost a friend two years ago to suicide and so many questions still linger on why and how it could have happened. He was brilliant, had a promising career as a doctor and the ladies absolutely loved him.

Stay strong and be there for your friend as much as you can. I can tell already that you are a wonderful person.

(PS- on a very random side note, the writing on your side bar under your photo looks exactly like my handwriting!)

    1. Suicide is always such a tough thing to try to understand. I am not completely sure I will ever understand. I am so sorry to hear about your friend and I understand how ya feel.
I am so happy you stopped by and thank you for the encouragement.
I think the font is called throw your hands up in the air, and I think it is funny that it matches yours. That means I like your handwriting.

  4. Thank you for being real, it's nice to read. I have lost people to suicide and it is devastating. I work every day on not blowing little things up, because when all is said and done it is not life threatening. I pray your friend heals quickly.

  10. Found your blog through various blog hopping and stopped by reading. Thank you so much for sharing and don't ever apologise for your honest words. Its your space and if someone has a problem with what you write they should just close the tab within their browser and leave!

hope your friend gets better soon and sees that life isn't so bad after all! I've been in your friends shoes and after years of asking myself why it had to come to this point I finally see there are so many things to live for! Only thing you can do is to be strong for your friend and only listen when your friend is willing to talk about!
My thoughts are with you and your friend.

  12. (((BRITT)))) I've lost a friend or two to suicide, and I'm very, very grateful that you did not lose yours! You read to me like a very insightful and intelligent young woman, especially when I read "also overlooking problems I see others facing." Sadly, that's what happens sometimes: people DO tell others, they DO speak -but people are either too overwhelmed or self-absorbed or in some cases they simply don't even care that much! and sometimes they just don't even realize. And none of that is going on with you - your friend is blessed to have you! Prayers and good thoughts, indeed <3
