Guest Post by the Amazing Katelyn!

I am horrible at writing, if you have not already noticed. My method of writing consists of writing exactly as I talk, therefore, I asked my friend Katelyn to share with us a few great writing tips!

Guest Post: Writing Tips for Blog Posts

Hello, Yellow Umbrella readers! I'm Katelyn from The Write Direction. Britt was kind enough to let me talk to you all today! You can probably guess from the title of my blog that I like to write. I'm a sophomore journalism major, so I kind of have to enjoy writing :)

I just created my blog in July, so I'm new to the blogging world. I'm still getting used to the idea of buttons, link-ups, giveaways, and guest posts. One thing I do know a thing or two about, though, is blog post writing. Like I said, I enjoy writing, so that part comes easy to me, even when some of those other things don't!

I'm here to share with you today some tips I use to write my own blogs. Hopefully, you will find it useful, and may even apply them when writing for your own blog!

Write whatever you feel Journalism is a very structured writing style. There is a whole book, The AP Style Guide, devoted just to rules and regulations for journalistic writing. What you write articles on also depends a lot on what's going on in the world for inspiration. That's why, I use my blog to write about whatever is going on in my life. It's almost a type of online journal for me to express my feelings and get feedback from other bloggers. Don't over analyze when it comes to write a blog post; if it's meant to be, the words will just flow from your fingertips and onto the screen.

Vary the format of your posts I realize that this is more of a design tip than an actual blog-writing tip, but I find that this helps with my creativity when I'm writing. If I do a post one day that is pretty much all writing, I try to switch it up the next time, and add some photos. I also enjoy inserting video and song clips into my posts, because that gives me something to base my post off of or at least supplement it. This makes the blog more pleasing to the reader, because it gives them some variety when they are reading it.

Don't stress if you don't stick to a regular posting schedule Now that I'm back at college, I find that it's harder for me to post, because I have so many other things going on in my life. Don't let a busy schedule stress you out about posting. If you have something to say, you'll find the time to post. Don't just make something up to fill in the spaces.

Link Up! I've found that link-ups are a great way to meet new people. Plus, a lot of the time, link-ups have pre-designated questions. It's a great way to write a post about something that you may not have thought to write about before. It's great especially if your blog is new, because then you get your name out there and people can see what your blog is all about!

Have fun! No matter what or how you choose to post, just have fun with it. That's the most important thing about blogging. As long as you love it and love what you are doing, it's worth it. It doesn't matter how many comments or views your posts have. As long as you are happy, that's what matters most!
